The dictionary defines reverence as a feeling of deep respect or awe for a person (Mother Theresa), a place (Mt. Rainier) or event (Beethoven symphony). It is an attitude resulting in affection and high esteem for the person or object to which it is directed. Therefore, children have reverence for their parents and grandparents, husbands and wives revere each other, citizens may revere their leaders, and all must have reverence for God.
Reverence is the spiritual side of respect. It is humans standing in awe of the magnificent creation God has blessed us with. God is the creator of life in all its rich and varied forms - exquisite flowers and towering trees, tiny insects and colorful birds, powerful oceans and majestic mountains, amazing creatures in the sea, on the land and in the sky and most importantly our fellow human beings. A reverent attitude toward God includes honoring, expressing gratitude to and obeying God's commandments.
Be mindful of reverence by developing a habit of respecting all things we share the planet with as we are all God's creatures.
