scrip
(scrip)
n.
1.
A
really weird name for a really great fundraising idea
St. Joseph School earns more than
$30,000
each year with our scrip program. This page tells
you all you
need
to know to help
us
earn even more this year.
Scrip
is the easiest way for you to raise money for
St.
Joseph School,
once you get in the habit. Unlike other fundraising
initiatives, scrip allows you to support
the
school while making purchases
you would make anyway. Groceries, clothing, toys,
gifts, even gasoline can be purchased with scrip.
The scrip program works like this:
-
St. Joseph School buys gift cards from dozens of
retailers (at a discount)
-
You buy those gift cards from the school (at face
value)
-
You can use the cards yourself, or give them as
gifts to
-
St. Joseph School makes money, and you don't spend
an extra
For instance,
let's
say
you shop at QFC. Instead of writing a check the next
time you shop, you pay with a gift card you've bought
from St.
Joseph School. Your groceries cost you the same
amount, but our school earns 5%.
We
offer cards from an assortment of local (QFC, Red
Robin) and nationwide (Safeway,
Starbucks, Gap, Barnes &
Noble) vendors, and even online retailer amazon. com.
Stop by the Development office to see the list of
hundreds of merchants who participate in this
program.
We keep many
popular
cards in stock, and we'll be happy to order others
and have them for you in a few days.
What's the catch?
There really isn't one. If:you've
ever bought a gift card, then you know what it's like
to buy scrip.
How
do
you get started?
Start by using scrip for just your groceries and
coffee.
We'll set you up with Starbucks or Tullys cards, and
cards for just about any grocery store in
Seattle.
Our school earns most of our money on grocery
and
coffee purchases, and it's an easy way for you to
start.
How
do
you pay for scrip?
We accept cash or check, and for large purchases, you
may also use a debit card. Unfortunately, credit card
company fees and charges would offset any profits we
earn.
When
and where is scrip sold?
We sell scrip
at a table right outside the development office each
morning and afternoon that school is in session. Stop
by after you drop your child off, or just before you
pick up.
(We sometimes offer scrip at Mass and special
events.)
Can people outside St. Joseph School use our
scrip?
You bet they can.
Grandparents love scrip. If your company gives gift
cards at year-end
or for bonuses, why not buy them from St. Joseph? We
will cheerfully accommodate your bulk
orders.
Do
the cards expire?
Most gift cards have
no expiration date. Use them just like
cash.
