Healthy, Safe, and Sustainable Environment

Join us this holiday season in giving back to your school by supporting St. Joe's as we rebuild with resilience! Your support matters more than ever and no gift is too small.

Every day the St. Joseph School facilities team aims to create the best possible environment for our community to ensure that we are protected and preserved. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, our team is taking extraordinary measures to upgrade and institute health and safety measures that will help us open for in-person education as quickly as possible once it is safe to do so.

Every donor who gives $1,000 or more to the 2020 Friends and Family Winter Appeal to support a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment for St. Joseph School will be recognized on a plaque near the rainwater collection system. All donations matter and any amount is sincerely appreciated in support of providing exemplary care for our campus and community. St. Joseph School is steadfast in our commitment to our Jesuit tradition and to provide a world-class education and a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment. We hope that you will consider supporting the 2020 Friends and Family Winter Appeal.

Your gifts will support projects like:

HVAC and Ventilation – Oh My!

Our in-person COVID-19 safety learning plan includes installing window fans and smart controls and addressing HVAC operations. We’ve installed the window fans and smart controls but we still need to address the HVAC operations. Currently, the ventilation system in the cafeteria and auditorium is inadequate. Good airflow is extremely important for in-person education in the age of COVID-19.

Fresh Air!

The Primary School window balance springs and certain windows throughout campus need repair and replacement. We also hope to provide air purifiers in the common areas. These repairs are done in-house by our talented facilities team.

Let’s make it rain!

To move closer to our goal of being a lean and sustainable campus, we want to install three rainwater collection systems. With every storm, rain carries pollutants off our roods, driveways and other hard surfaces to local creeks, Lake Washington, and the Puget Sound and can cause sewer overflows, and erode hillsides and stream banks. Rain gardens and cisterns can help control this storm water. RainWise will provide a rebate of $100K to build this system and your support will allow us to build a filtered/pressurized system to recycle water for irrigation (vegetable garden) and water harvesting for our non-potable plumbing system

Follow the path!

The exterior campus needs wayfinding signage and maps to allow for easier navigation and exterior lighting is needed to provide a well light and safe environment. This will allow for efficient fixtures and added security. Lastly, we also need to preserve the parking lot for many years to come.

Opportunity knocks!

The Primary school stair treads and landings are damaged and need repair. Campus wide door hardware replacement equipment is also needed. Installation includes door magnets that allow for touchless entry and protection from fire and added safety. We’re also hoping to replace three exterior doors with new hardware that will provide visibility and natural light.

Under one roof!

The school’s roofing needs repairs. These repairs include flashing, sealing corners, and pipes and preserving the historic masonry of the primary school. The roof is 20 years old and this project would extend the life for another 10 years.

Quench your thirst!

The Primary school’s drinking foundations need replacement fixtures.
