Building Our Future - St. Joseph School Seattle

Community Starts Here!

Just like reading a book, we want a library that opens up a world of discovery for kids, an equitable place that students are drawn to and feel safe in, and a flexible space for parents to use while on campus or in between appointments.

History

The new library will honor two instrumental leaders in the history of St. Joseph School, George and Debra Hofbauer. George led our school from 1977 to 2012 and Debra worked in the Advancement Office for nearly 30 years. Together they changed the shape of the school and created a thriving environment. They envisioned the Wyckoff Gym, started the school’s endowment, kicked off the Jog-a-thon, and more.

Our new library will be called The Hofbauer Family Library and Learning Center.

Mission and Vision

  • The urgency caused by the pandemic for creative use of the library;
  • The necessity for light and fresh air;
  • The commitment to small group learning;
  • A commitment to be a leader with current library and technology standards and student-centered learning;
  • A space that’s engaging for primary school students and a hub for middle school students;
  • A space for middle school exploratory classes, which are a hallmark of the St. Joseph School educational experience;
  • The demand to develop a space for families and the overall community to enjoy during the day;
  • An amazing opportunity to create more indoor/outdoor spaces;
  • An increasing desire from our community to improve physical spaces around campus.

We find ourselves at a tipping point and want to take the library into the future. We’re raising funds for a state-of-the art library renovation that appeals to all grade levels and the entire community. It’s been 30 years since we’ve revived this space. The past 18 months have demonstrated the need for better space utilization.

Library Concepts

These renderings from our architects show how we envision the space while meeting the needs of our students and community.

If you'd like to review the renderings in person and discuss the project, we’re more than happy to provide you with a private tour. Email Erin Oest-Larsen to set up your tour.
