Student Outreach

Students at St. Joseph are encouraged to volunteer in the community. Many students volunteer on their own accord, qualifying them for the Paul Hirning Service Award. However, the following are programs ingrained in the school curriculum.
Service Day
Three times each year, the seventh and eighth grade students volunteer at various locations in the Seattle area. These students work with their advisory groups and mentors as a team to best serve their areas of interest. Some students help sort recyclables for the city, while others serve food to the less fortunate. Here is a list of some of our organizations:
Northwest Harvest
Seattle Children's
Ronald McDonald House
Emergency Feeding Program
Women's Shelter at Union Gospel Mission
Boyer Children's Clinic
Community Lunch on Capitol Hill
Woodland Park Zoo
St. Francis House
CleanScapes
Millionaire's Club
St. Joseph's Baby Corner
8th Grade Service Hours
Each eighth grade student is required to complete 20 service hours before receiving their diploma in the Spring. The students are not allowed to count Service Day hours towards this commitment. Students have usually volunteered with the St Joseph Parish or other local schools. However, they have the freedom to work with any number of organizations.
